Zhexi is a fourth-year chemical engineering Ph.D. student working with Prof. Jingguang Chen at Columbia University. He is currently working on the catalytic upgrading of biomass with theoretical and experimental methods, using metal carbides and nitrides catalysts. Prior to graduate school, Zhexi has also worked on biomass conversion with Prof. Dionisios Vlachos at the University of Delaware and also has experience in solar cell optimization. Zhexi has published in Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, Green Chemistry, ACS Catalysis, and Nature Communications. Additionally, he has been the teaching assistant for the Separation Processes and Chemical Engineering Laboratory courses, in which he tutored students, created exam questions and graded assignments. He has mentored prospective students during the department visiting weekend and helped to interview faculty candidates. He is also a student representative and membership director at the Catalysis Society of the Metropolitan New York. In his free time, Zhexi likes to play basketball.
