Sara Rezaee received her M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering (separation process design) from University of Tehran, Iran in 2013. She joined the Ph.D. program at Rice University under the supervision of Prof. Francisco Vargas in 2014. Sara's research is focused on the development of novel techniques for separation and characterization of crude oil systems, using chromatographic and spectroscopic methods. She proposed a new faster and more reliable method for crude oil fractionation after her first year of Ph.D. Recently, she has started to study asphaltene characterization by asphaltene fractionation based on its solubility in different n-alkanes. She is working on the characterization of each asphaltene fractions by using NMR spectroscopy to understand the asphaltene structure, determining the molecular weight of asphaltene fractions and studying the interfacial behavior of asphaltene fractions.
