Richard W. Prugh has been involved in various aspects of process safety for about 60 years, beginning with Du Pont [Explosives, Organic Chemicals, Safety and Fire Protection, and Engineering Departments], including 17 years as President of Process Safety Engineering, Inc., and 13 years with Chilworth Technology. He is an emeritus and fellow member of the AIChE, is registered in New Jersey as a chemical engineer and in Maryland as a fire protection engineer, and has been a Certified Safety Professional since 1980. He first presented a toxicity-hazards paper to the AIChE in Boston in 1995, following his involvement with the New Jersey Toxic Catastrophe Prevention Act, and with assisting clients in compliance with the "toxicity information" requirements of the OSHA Process Safety Management standard and the EPA Risk Management Program.
