Katie Mulligan
Katie A. Mulligan, Ph.D. Research Scientist, Reactive Chemicals Subject Matter Expert The Dow Chemical Company Katie Mulligan is an expert in Reactive Chemicals hazard recognition, evaluation and associated utilization of small-scale calorimetric and flammability techniques to assess and quantify reactivity hazards. She aids in identifying and managing risks, as well as investigating the root causes of complex incidents. Katie is passionate about safety, innovation and communication. She has developed novel methods to couple hazard calorimetry to online analytical detection and serves as the lead for a global R&D Dow initiative to prevent lab-scale safety incidents. She supports multiple Dow businesses, including Packaging & Specialty Plastics, Amines, & Core R&D. Katie is a regular volunteer for American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Process Safety Division and GCPS. She’s a member of the Process Safety Management Mentoring Committee and the Loss Prevention Symposium Committee, for which she is serving as 2024 LPS Symposium Vice-Chair. Katie is the current chair for the Process Safety Divisions IDEAL Committee. She is committed to upholding AICHE’s IDEAL principles through outreach, education, and participating in programs that advance women and minority representation in the chemical sciences. As a woman in science, she has been personally affected by gender inequities, but has also benefitted from the support of unbiased mentors and understands the value created by individuals and organizations that promote diversity and inclusion with their words and actions.
