John Sofranko has over 30 years’ experience developing chemical process technologies. During the 1980’s his group at ARCO led the development of the Oxidative Coupling of Methane to ethylene and liquid fuels. His group also developed SuperflexTM, a process to catalytically crack hydrocarbons to propylene and ethylene currently being licensed by KBR and commercialized in South Africa by SASOL. Dr. Sofranko held senior management positions at Arco and Lyondell Chemical Companies in Corporate Planning, Global Styrene Business, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Chief Technical Officer. Sofranko has authored over 60 US patents and was awarded the 1991 Philadelphia Catalysis Club and the ARCO Technical Achievement Awards. He earned chemistry degrees from the Universities of Delaware (BS’75) and Rochester (PhD’79). He is a member of the ACS, The Electrochemical Society, IEEE, a Fellow of AIChE (where he served as Executive Director from 2001-2009) and Associate Fellow of IChemE.
