Dr. Van Deventer completed undergraduate studies at Stanford University, PhD studies under the guidance of David Tirrell at the California Institute of Technology, and postdoctoral studies under the guidance of Dane Wittrup at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He started a faculty position in Chemical and Biological Engineering at Tufts University in 2015 and currently holds the Bright Futures Assistant Professorship. In 2019, Dr. Van Deventer was awarded an R35 Outstanding Investigator Award for Early Career Researchers from the US National Institutes of Health. In 2020, Dr. Van Deventer was named an “Emerging Investigator” by the journal Molecular Systems Design & Engineering. In 2020 he was also named a Future BIOT Leader by the Division of Biochemical Technology of the American Chemical Society. The Van Deventer Laboratory works at the interface of protein engineering, synthetic biology, and chemical biology.
