Ivano Tavernelli received his MSc degrees in Biochemistry (1991) and Theoretical Physics (1996) from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). In 1999 he obtained hid PhD from ETH Zurich and after two years of PostDoc at the University of Cambridge (UK) he moved to the Swiss Federal institute of Technology of Lausanne (EPFL) where he became Maître of Teaching and Research in 2012. In 2015 he was hired by IBM Research – Zurich to initiate a quantum computing research activity in the department of Science & Technology. In 2018 he became IBM Global leader for Advanced Algorithms and Quantum Simulations for applications in chemistry, physics, and material science. He is co-author of more than 200 scientific publications and several book chapters on quantum chemistry, quantum dynamics and quantum computing.
