Irina obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from Dowling College in New York. As an undergraduate researcher, Irina investigated soil microbial diversity and impacts of metal nanoparticles released by manufacturers into water and soil. As a Chemical Engineering doctoral student at New York University Tandon School of Engineering (then NYU Poly), Irina researched biosensors capable of detecting antibiotics and measuring their DNA-binding strength. Subsequently, as a postdoctoral scientist in the department of Applied Physics, Irina focused on technologies that would enable sustainable waste management in rural areas. After postdoctoral research Irina transitioned into the industry and took a position of UltraPure Water Engineer at Intel. There Irina focused heavily on water conservation in semiconductor manufacturing processes. She was the integral part of the Intel water conservation team recognized with the Society of Women Engineers Global Team Leadership Award and Intel Environmental Excellence Award for achievements in driving environmentally sustainable manufacturing practices. Outside work, Irina is a Member at Large on Board of Directors of Oregon Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society, a Board Member of local chapter of Society of Women Engineers and a research assistant for AIChE Institute for Sustainability.
