My research interest is the nanoscale characterization of the surface chemistry of lignocellulosic biomass via atomic force microcopy (AFM). Our major goal is to understand the phenomena behind the nonproductive binding of cellulases to lignin at the nanoscale by measuring the interaction forces between chemically known surfaces and reference pulp substrates. We are also interested in measuring the interaction forces between carbohydrate binding module of Cel7A and substrate surfaces to determine the type of forces that dominate the binding of cellulases to lignin and cellulose.
