Baraka Lwoya immigrated to the United States when he was 16 years to pursue a higher education. Despite the long distance from Africa, the desire to obtain a learn in one of the greatest scientific nations was most important. While pursuing his Ph.D., he came to learn of several military leaders and their extraordinary sacrifices such as President Dwight Eisenhower, Admiral Hyman Rickover, and his favorite General Collin Powell. The dedication of these exceptional people prompted him to join the United States Army to serve and give back to the nation that provided him with immense opportunity. During this summer, Baraka worked for Owens-Corning in developing thermal insulation boards that serve a rudimentary purpose of reducing heat losses in the house. Thermal insulation is quintessential in homes, and what was accomplished under the guidance of senior research scientists was the development of porous foam boards with extraordinary thermal insulation.
