Scientific products and services provider Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc (NYSE:TMO) said on Wednesday that its newly launched 'The Just Project' will support the efforts of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the US in making COVID-19 testing available to all returning students, faculty and staff at the beginning of the fall semester.

The company has pledged USD15m in diagnostic instruments, test kits and related supplies and will also provide technical assistance to HBCUs seeking to establish or expand their laboratories to provide regular on-campus COVID-19 testing throughout the 2020-21 school year.

HBCUs receiving these donations have committed to use the donated equipment solely to offer COVID-19 testing to faculty, staff and students at no cost.

Thermo Fisher Scientific currently has the capacity to produce more than 10 million tests per week.
