Scientists design sensor to detect chemical compounds
2024-03-19
A sensor created by MIT scientists detected per-fluoroalkyl and poly-fluoroalkyl substances at levels as low as 200 parts per trillion in water, potentially giving consumers an easier way to find out whether their drinking water contains the "forever chemicals." The chemists say the sensor is based on lateral flow technology and embedded with a special polymer to detect PFAS, which have been connected to health problems and currently can only be measured in laboratory tests.
