Researchers create material to remove pollutants

University of Manchester researchers developed a material to remove pollutants such as medications and synthetic chemicals from water. The metal-organic cage molecules trap contaminants such as ethinylestradiol and tonalide through hydrophobic binding. While MOCs have been used to capture gas, this new material includes sulfonates, making it water-soluble.
