Inventing a "smart" bandage for chronic wounds

Researchers at the California Institute of Technology have developed a stretchable bandage that monitors changes in a wound's temperature and pH and dispenses medication and electric stimulation to accelerate healing and avoid infections. In tests on lab mice and model wounds, the bandage promoted wound closure and new skin growth. Now, the researchers are looking forward to beginning a pilot study with human subjects.
