Leonardo Santos Barbosa and Abidemi Awojuyigbe, past grant beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Foundation Board of Trustees for investing in the next generation. They shared inspiring stories of how receiving an AIChE International Student Chapter Leadership travel grant and Minority Affairs Committee (MAC) Scholarship Award for College Students made a difference on their path to earning a chemical engineering degree.
MAC hosted a poster session to kick off the Eminent Engineers Awards Ceremony at the 2019 Annual Meeting. Thirteen graduate and undergraduate students were awarded travel grants, funded by AIChE Foundation donors, to attend the conference and present their posters.
Thanks to our dedicated Annual Fund donors, the Foundation funded five community driven projects with grant awards totaling $84,000 this year. Since 2012, the Annual Fund has provided $2MM in grant funding for 98 projects lead by our membership to advance the profession.
Jennifer Sinclair Curtis, Dean, College of Engineering, UC Davis along with Kathy Chen, the late Dr. John C. Chen’s wife, hosted a virtual coffee chat via Zoom with past Chen Awardees: Donna Bryant (2018), Colin Young (2018) and Julia Lin (2019) to hear about their professional journey since selection.
AIChE held its third annual and inaugural Rising Star workshop with over 65 talented women from industry and academia across the country! The workshop was a huge success, increasing the accessibility of the program to a substantially broader group of women.
Dr. Peter B. Lederman, an AIChE Fellow, past chair of the AIChE Foundation and former director who made extensive humanitarian and leadership contributions to AIChE and the chemical engineering profession across decades, passed away on June 9, 2020. He was 88.
