BASF Hosts First Faculty Workshop on Process Safety

As a Founders’ Circle member of our Doing a World of Good campaign, BASF recently hosted their first process safety workshop to better educate faculty and provide an in-depth look at the importance of process safety education for undergraduates. At their manufacturing facility in Wyandotte, MI – BASF welcomed 26 faculty members from Universities around the globe for a three-day workshop, including a tour of the facility itself.

The faculty workshops provide educators with the tools needed to integrate process safety into their curricula and prepare students for careers in the chemical engineering industry. As a core priority of the Doing a World of Good campaign, the Undergraduate Process Safety Learning Initiative is a major global movement to positively shape the profession for decades to come.

Topics at this workshop included creating a safety culture, behavior-based safety, hazard identification and risk management, and technical discipline. BASF, as well as CCPS staff, shared best practices and real life situations to help demonstrate the importance of process safety education.

Doing a World of Good Through Safety and Ethical Practice

AIChE’s Doing a World of Good campaign is a 5-year, $15 million effort that brings together industry, academia and AIChE’s 60,000 members to collectively advance chemical engineering and bring that expertise to bear in addressing societal needs.

The Undergraduate Process Safety Learning Initiative is a major global effort and core campaign priority to accelerate process safety education and better prepare graduates for the workforce.
