FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am enrolled in the Academy of Technology and Engineering, a Dual enrollment program at Hampton High School in Hampton, Virginia. I'm currently completing an honors class towards my field of study, engineering. My educational aspirations consist of getting a bachelor’s degree in in the engineering field. At this time, I'm not completely sure if I will go into electrical or mechanical engineering but I have taken all of the required prerequisites. I am a driven student who does not shy away from a challenge. Throughout high school, I've excelled the most in math, science, English, social studies and also talents.
I began taking college courses in the 9th grade. I also worked part time at McDonald's during my sophomore and senior year, in addition to completing monthly volunteer work with the Hampton Omega Foundation Adopt-A-Spot, the holiday food drive, as well as the back to school supply drive. I am also a member of the Hampton High CHROME Club. CHROME is a nationally recognized non-profit program designed to increase opportunities and awareness in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.
FOSSI: Who is a role model that has influenced you?
As I step into adulthood, I remember watching my father while he was in uniform in the United States Navy and later on, I watched him transition to civilian life. I got to hear his stories about the hurdles he had to overcome while being an African American male in the U.S. Navy, and eventually being placed in a leadership position. He always told me to take the lessons learned from bad supervisors in order to not make the same mistakes when it's your turn to lead. He also taught me how important it is to take care of the people you lead.
FOSSI: Share a few fun facts about yourself.
I started out at an early age playing with legos and at the age of 4-5, I could construct lego sets made for ages 18 and up.
