Meet Caitlyn Carter: 2021 FOSSI Scholar Attending North Carolina A&T

April 19, 2022

FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Caitlyn Carter is a Centennial High School graduate and incoming freshman at North Carolina A&T State University. When she has free time, she loves crocheting, playing badminton, and participating in clubs and organizations; including the National Honor Society and Young Engineers Shape the World. Additionally, she is a part of the Teen Library Council at the Glendale Public Library.

She became interested in engineering after attending a summer program in 2018 that focused on the role of engineering in transportation. This experience inspired her to become an engineer after seeing what it was like to work in that field and how engineering has improved the lives of so many people. After high school, Caitlyn plans to major in mechanical engineering. Professionally, Caitlyn aims to work as an engineer for a company that focuses on creating sustainable solutions and values community involvement.

FOSSI: Why are you passionate about pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field?

After completing my major in mechanical engineering, I plan to work in sustainability as an engineer for a company that focuses on creating sustainable solutions and values community involvement.

Sustainability is the key to the world’s future and must be implemented into our society as soon as possible. I want to make sustainability more accessible and widely used. As of now, I’m not entirely sure how I want to use mechanical engineering to make an impact in the world of sustainability, but I will continue to strive to make the world a greener place.

FOSSI: Share a few fun facts about yourself.

I like to crochet and play badminton.
