The technical program is now available for GHGT-12. This 12th event in the Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies conference (GHGT) series will be held in Austin, Texas, from the 5th to the 9th of October, 2014.
341 oral presentations and 789 posters will address the technical issues of Carbon Capture and Storage in 4 days with 7 parallel tracks and 71 sessions: 22 on CO2 capture, 24 on geologic storage, and 25 on demonstrations, technology assessment, transport, and other topics. Of the 340 speakers from 27 countries, there will be 108 from the U.S., 39 from Norway, 36 from the United Kingdom, and 30 from the Netherlands.
The GHGT conference series has established itself as the principal international platform for exhibiting and discussing new greenhouse gas mitigation technologies. This series has become a focal point for international research on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).
The GHGT conference series commenced in 1992 in Amsterdam, and since that event, the conference has travelled around the world from country to country, from continent to continent. Over the past twenty years, knowledge about the potential and impact of CCS has grown substantially. In 1992 the aim was to exchange basic information and to build a network of experts. The main challenge for the years ahead is to overcome the barriers for wide-scale deployment of CCS technologies. CCS is becoming an industry where millions or even billions of dollars will be invested. We have seen tremendous development in recent years and important decisions must be made in the coming years with respect to large-scale demonstration plants, how to communicate to the public, and the debateon the position of CCS in a portfolio of measures towards a sustainable energy future.
Currently, various countries operate research programs and support CCS pilot and demonstration projects with expressed ambitions to realize large CCS demonstration projects in the near future. Intentions are to run CCS demonstration plants as soon as 2015 which implies that by 2014 crucial decisions must have been made regarding the future of CCS, and projects must already be underway towards achieving this target.
GHGT-12 will discuss advances in the field of CCS and progress in overcoming barriers, as well as development of policies, legislation, and measures needed to facilitate the implementation of CCS; CCS is now at a decisive turning point.
The eleventh GHGT conference in Kyoto in November 2012 attracted over 1,200 delegates from 55 countries. For GHGT-12, the Steering Committee anticipates around 1,500 delegates. On behalf of the GHGT-12 Steering Committee, we look forward to welcoming you to Austin, Texas.
