Interparticle Forces I

Co-chair(s)

Ishida, N., Okayama University

The behaviour of particulates is complex, largely due to the wide array of interparticle forces that may exist within an assembly. These may be short range forces (van der Waals), long range forces (electrostatics) or contact forces, such as friction, and are strongly dependent on the distribution of particle properties, the processing condition and the surrounding environment. Interparticle forces influence all particle processes, from fluidisation to milling to additive manufacturing. This session explores a wide range of relevant areas, including characterisation of particle level forces, as well as their influence on the prevailing process behaviour by experiments and simulations.
