The Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María formed in 2003 a Research Center for Transporting Granular Materials (CITRAM) to support educational activities and experimental research, as an extension for those ME students taking the regular course on Bulk Solids Handling and those developing a thesis in this area.

Over the years, many ME students have studied, investigated and modeled different topics including: pneumatic conveying of solid particles of different nature, size and density; identification of flow patterns developed in the pipeline, minimum conveying velocity and pressure drop; abrasive wear using a novel rubber-wheel tester; segregation of ores in stockpiles and silos; flow of granular materials in hoppers and chutes; heat transfer of granular materials; among others. The aim of this poster is to present and share the results of this work.
