Rotating cylinders are widely used equipment’s in industry for processing and mixing of particulate materials. The quality of mixing and processing of the particulate material is thereby governed by flow behaviour and the amount of time spent by the material in this equipment.

The flow behaviour of dry particulate solids in such equipment’s is widely studied but little literature is available on the flow of wet particulate matter. In the present work tracer studies were conducted to measure the residence time distribution. The flow behaviour of the wet powder is characterised and compared with the dry powder using axial dispersion model. The study provides interesting insight into the difference in mixing behaviour of a dry and wet powder.
