In the present paper, a thermally thick particle model is combined with the CFD-DEM model to simulate the biomass gasification behavior in fluidized bed reactors. The heat and mass transfer, homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions, pyrolysis, radiation, particle collisions, turbulence as well as the interactions of the particles and continuous phase are all taken into account. Effects of different operating parameters (e.g., reactor temperature, steam/biomass molar ratio, oxygen/carbon mass ratio, and injection position) on the biomass gasification behavior are systematically explored. The simulation results are analyzed in terms of product gas species, carbon conversion, steam decomposition, cold gas efficiency and H2/CO ratio. Moreover, the big differences between thermally thin and thermally thick models are also highlighted.
