During a life cycle of gas or oil well exploration, operating condition of the wells and major components of a feed stream to the topside process constantly change. For this reason, the operating condition and control strategy of the topside process at either FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) or fixed platform need to be optimized in real-time. In this study, various operating scenarios that might occur during the life cycle of gas well are considered for the design of a topside process. In addition, a new methodology is developed to optimize the control parameters to maintain the topside process more effectively under various transition periods. For this, a neural network-based design of a control system is adopted, and the results show that it works well in particular for complex, nonlinear and time-varying systems.
