Biodiesel production from waste resources has been widely practiced as a possible solution to the increasing demand for renewable energy. Many new technologies for this production have been developed and require experimental data for efficient process design and scale-up. One such technology is the use of immobilized enzymes for biodiesel production. This presentation highlights the required kinetic data for effective process development of enzymatic biodiesel production using process simulation software. Isothermal calorimetric experiments and an Aspen process simulator were utilized for the development of a 100,000 gallon/year continuous miniature biodiesel plant.
