This paper presents examples of practical implementation of the Bowtie barrier-based methodology for the management of major hazard risks in a Chlor-Alkali production plant with membrane technology. It describes how Bowties were built and used during the Major Accident Hazard Risk Assessment (MAHRA) conducted as part of the Safety Case preparation. Bowtie diagrams cover technical, procedural and human aspects of facility operation. Also, the role of the Bowties in the determination of Safety Critical Elements (SCEs) and Safety Critical Tasks (SCT) is described along with the information related to the responsibilities/accountabilities for ensuring the integrity of barriers and safeguards. Bowtie diagrams were built following CCPS best practice recommendations.
