The DuPont Company is a 217 years Company with presence in many countries around the world. As a natural consequence of its history and based on the believes of its founder E.I. DuPont, Process Safety Management has been developed and in fact has been turned into a benchmark for many companies around the world. As a concise management process, Process Safety Management (PSM) started in DuPont in 1965 and was concluded in the shape that we know and has been recognized in the 1980´s. OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration has adopted and turned into regulation in the US as the CFR 1910.119 in the same 1980´s decade.

As the fourth step of a PSM implementation process considering the DuPont PSM model, Operational Discipline is the closing element that really has the objective to make sure that all procedures established in the DuPont’s PSM 14 elements are correctly implemented and followed accordingly. Operational Discipline (OD) is defined as the focus in all people do right, all times, since the first time.

This article synthetizes some of the developed practices in DuPont Latin America in recent years with the objective to develop an effective training program in Operational Discipline.
