Mist eliminators usually represent less than 1% of column internals overall cost, nonetheless these devices can increase tower capacity and separation efficiencies. A proper understanding of mist eliminators fundamentals, design and installation promotes better distillation operating conditions. This paper presents basic operating mechanisms of employed mist eliminators, basic design equations and installation techniques to ensure proper operation of these devices that also play a role in a fine separation process.
