Safety in general can have various connotations. For the industry, this means safety of the people, environment and the business. When we address safety for its longevity and long terms benefits, emerges the concept of sustainable safety. Success with sustainable safety for a corporation, rests within the realms of its various safety management systems. This does not merely rely on the existence of such programs, but on its successful implementation and continuous improvements.

This success of safety management systems is indicated by acknowledging and understanding of the various risks at the site and within the corporation.  The clock does not stop there. It also includes the mitigation and constant revaluation of these existing risks and identification of any new or emerging risks. Minimization of incidents on the site, is some such proof that the program is effective.

While the risk based safety management systems are implemented, it is critical that these systems include modules for continuous improvement due to changes in the regulatory environment, technology, human behaviour, market trends and economics. At the same there, the industry professionals are developing new and more efficient techniques, for such inclusions. Another challenge faced, is the wave of acquisitions and adaptations of work and safety culture. In a nut shell, with so much of transience in the industry, the need for a sustainable and easily transferable infrastructure

This paper elaborates on the sustainable and sequential application of these parametric changes in a risk based manner for the entire lifecycle of the facilities. That assures longevity for the site and the corporation. The case study discussed in this paper, will highlight the applicability of the concepts discussed
