Abstract:

One of the major bottlenecks relating to mega ethylene plant capacity is turbomachinery. Turbomachinery OEM's have been moving forward to increase capacity through the application of proven technologies for critical components in order to provide more efficient & reliable turbomachinery in increasingly larger scale ethylene plants.

In regards to targeting 2.5 MTPA capacity, the authors of this abstract studied and summarized the required challenges for the design, manufacturing and testing of turbomachinery within such large scale crackers.

In addition to sumamrizing the challenges of greenfield turbomachinery mega-ethylene technology, this presentation will also focuse on the debottlenecking of brownfield ethylene crackers via footprint replacement or revamping of existing turbomachinery casings to increase plant throughput.
