This article details numerical prediction of fire spread carried out to study the distribution of carbon monoxide concentration, smoke dispersion, soot concentration and temperature in laboratory compartment, using a commercial fire modeling software tool. The heat release rate curve predicted from the simulation was compared with literature values carried out in a road tunnel. The time variations of carbon monoxide transportation, smoke concentration and temperature spread in compartment room are reported to evaluate the effect on humans. The soot concentration was described and used throughout this study as an indicator of safety in the compartment room. The effects of vent dimension and ventilation capacity were analyzed by smoke detector response times. This work provides improvements derived from reinterpretation of actual fire scene considering the ability of mechanical exhaust system and ventilation in compartment room to mitigate the hazard of fire.
