Flash computations and the physical properties of each phase are vitally important for accurately sizing process equipment. The 3-phase flash/mixture calculations in the API Tech Data Book 9th Edition Software provide highly accurate flash results for hydrocarbon mixtures. This is due to the incorporation of accurately tuned binary interaction parameters and the use of industry proven equation of state methods for a very wide range of components and operating conditions. This allows for accurate flash calculations to be done by any chemical engineer working in the oil and gas industry for most systems of interest without any indepth knowledge of thermodynamics and thermophysical properties. Comparison of results by the API Tech Data Committee against 3 major simulaiton software products showed superior results in 5 areas important to accurately sizing process equipment. The software interface uses a modern XAML design that does not require a flowsheet to be created so that chemical engineers not experienced with process simulation software can quickly become proficeint in its use.
