(73c) The Closed Coke Slurry System - How to Prevent Coke Fine Particle Emissions in Delayed Coker Operations

The Closed Coke Slurry System (CCSS) developed by TriPlan AG in Germany offers a reliable way to make the unloading of coke drums more efficient, replacing the "coal mining method" currently practiced in Delayed Coker operations.

The addition of a "coke crusher" will provide more uniform coke sizes (down to 4 inches) that will be discharged into a Slurry Pit, and pumped from there into a Dewatering Bin which will deliver the dewatered Coke to Transport, by Rail or Truck, or into a Silo. The streamlined coke dewatering method result in a reduction of the dewatering time which in turn will result in reduction of the overall Decoking (coke unloading) cycle time.

In the Closed Coke Slurry System, the coke and slurry flow are kept under control by putting them "under cover" throughout the complete coke handling process. It offers thus an "environmentally reponsible process" to the operator which might help with securing an operating permit in places with a strong emphasis on environmental concerns related to industrial plants. 

The reduction of the Coker cycle time will result an increase of overall ontime capacity for the Delayed Coker Unit, providing economic benefits to the operator. A payback example for this process in a refinery in Germany will be provided in this presentation.
