Beware the Trappings of "Good" Safety

Unlike ten years ago, one of the challenges of a safety professional in the industry today is not how to get or maintain management buy-in.  Today, the safety professional’s challenge is in how to handle the well-meaning manager or management team who think “better” safety is “more” safety. 

This paper will describe several “traps” of good safety programs and ways in which they can be avoided, or at least controlled.  The issues discussed will be based on real-life examples from the authors’ own personal experiences both inside and outside the industry.  It is for anyone who has ever spent more time tracking recommendation closures than affecting actual change in the workplace.
