Simulation has traditionally been used for steady state process design. In reality, many process design controlling scenarios are dictated by transient conditions. Dynamic simulation effectively predicts these transient situations during process design and helps in reducing future operational and start-up risks. This article goes through multiple case studies where dynamic simulation has been effectively used to design equipments as well as predicting methods to minimize operational problems. The article also shows cases where dynamic simulation validates design calculations conducted by traditional methods.
