This paper presents how the front-end work process can be improved by applying an advanced model using standard commercial simulation software in a generic LNG receiving and regasification terminal. Process design engineering hours and schedule can be reduced by using this advanced universal model, which is flexible to cover all operation modes and different design configurations. It also allows quick understanding of the consequence of changing design parameters without explicitly getting into complex simulation models. In any of the engineering design phases, such as Concept Selection, FEED, and EPC Design, the work process can be improved by using the same modeling concept. The engineering work process can further be improved by integrating this model with Project Database software to generate process datasheets. This modeling concept can also be used in operations training or plant operations optimizations to fine tune certain operation parameters to improve plant performance. A recent LNG terminal project has utilized this model concept and has demonstrated its improvement in process design.
