(72b) State of the Ozone State Implementation Plan

The Houston/Galveston/Brazoria (HGB) area was classified as a ?severe? non-attainment area and has to meet the national 1-hour ozone standard of 120 ppb by June 2007. EPA subsequently replaced the 1-hour ozone standard by the 8-hour standard in June of 2005. The HGB area is now classified as ?moderate? non-attainment for the 8-hour standard and must demonstrate attainment of 85 ppb by June 2010. TCEQ must also submit a State Implementation Plan (SIP) for the HGB area to the EPA by June 2007 detailing how it intends to comply with the 8-hour standard. This presentation will discuss the progress made so far in the HGB air shed towards reaching the goals of attainment for both the 1 hour and 8 hour ozone standards.
