The Centre of Materials and Process Synthesis located at the School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in partnership with Golden Nest International Group, is working towards developing a novel technology aimed at the fuel production market in China. This process incorporates several new concepts arising from the process synthesis methodologies developed at COMPS. The application of these concepts has given rise to a CTL process design that is flexible in operation; works well with medium to high inert feeds and is competitive on an environmental and conversion efficiency basis. This presentation and paper addresses an overview of the project, the current state of the project and projections of the perceived future market growth in China for Fischer Tropsch based Coal Chemical and Clean Fuels processes. The design of the project also caters for the usage of a variety of carbon based feedstocks to the Fischer Tropsch process. Some of the feedstock particular to the Chinese production environment are explored.
