Introductory Remarks

There is an opportunity for innovation in chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing processes through the integration of human intuition and experience with big data, machine learning and other software innovations. Subject matter experts bring their experience and expertise for constructing an effective analytics strategy, whereas new capabilities in software enable them to work and analyze processes and outcomes at the speed of thought. This speed of insight is increasingly important in dealing with two of the highest priority pressure points in the industry: time to market from research to production, and replacing batch-based production with a continuous production model.

However, since analysis can suffer from human biases and heuristics, it is imperative to take advantage of big data platforms and applications to ensure completeness of the analytics effort. This includes data collection and aggregation for comprehensive access to production results, as well as advanced analytics to accelerate the time to insight and the breath of questions which may be required for insight. This session will provide a framework for leveraging software innovation in the context of industry requirements with examples of current customer deployments and insights.
