As a new family of two-dimensional semiconductor materials, organic inorganic 2D halide perovskites have drawn significant attention in the past few years. Some key features include: ultra long charge carrier lifetime/diffusion length, high photoluminescence quantum efficiency, and defect tolerant nature, which are essential in achieving high efficiency devices. Fundamental understanding of the structure-property-performance relationship of the halide perovskite in the nanoscale is currently of great interests. In this talk, we present our recent work in developing novel 2D halide perovskites with tunable band gaps and the characterization of their optical and electronic properties. 2D heterostructures, with both organic and inorganic functional building blocks, will be discussed as well. Finally, we show that the unique extrinsic edge states of these materials, which is essential to determine the electronic properties and device performance of these materials.
