Inspired by the exceptional composition, structure, formation process and functions of natural materials, a variety of bioinspired pervaporation membranes have been designed and fabricated using cell membrane, mussel, nacre as representative prototypes and biomineralization, bioadhesion, self-assembly as major methods. These membranes have exhibited fascinating properties and outstanding performances in alcohol dehydratin, gasoline desulfurization. Bioinspiration, as the versatile platforms for sustainable development of membrane technology, have great implications in designing membrane materials and intensifying membrane processes. This presentation will give a brief overview about the preparations, applications as well as perspectives of bioinspired pervaporation membranes.
