Optimistion and control applications for large-scale complex nonlinear distributed-parameter systems is computationally costly and in many cases intractable due to the need for constructing and inverting large Jacobian and Hessian matrices. Model reduction technologies sidestep the construction of such large-scale matrices leading to smart computational amenable algorithms.
