(262d) Breakage Kinetics of Urea Crystals in Agitated Slurries

Crystals with high aspect ratios tend to break when stirred in slurries, and the kinetics depend on crystal properties such as the major axis length of the crystals and the aspect ratio distribution of the crystals; and on process conditions including the agitation rate and the solids concentration in the slurry. Urea is used as a model substance in these studies because urea can be grown into needles when crystallized in water. This presentation discusses experimental results, and the breakage distribution functions and parameters derived from the experimental results.
