In the last several years an innovative energy-saving technology based on the exergy recuperation has been developed. For the thermal processes heat can be recirculated by providing the minimum exergy required for heat circulation to compensate for the exergy destruction in heat exchange module without any addition of heat generated by fuel combustion. This self-heat recuperation technology can be applied to various industrial thermal processes such as distillation, PSA gas separation, chemical absorption gas separation, air separation, drying, condensation, desalination, etc., leading to a considerable reduction in the energy consumption. In addition, the exergy recuperation technology has been adopted to the energy conversion processes such as hydrogen production by exergy recuperative gasification, reforming combustion and energy and material coproduction. In this lecture, a state-of-the-art innovative energy efficient utilization technology based on the concept of exergy recuperation will be discussed.
