The layered solid acids HTaMoO6 and the exfolitated HTaMoO6 nanosheet aggregates were firstly studied for the dehydration of fructose to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF). A serial experiments were conducted under various reaction temperature, reaction time, solvents and catalyst ratios. The optimum HMF yields of 86.5% and 82.8% were obtained at 130 ℃ after 40 min and 140 ℃ after 30 min when catalyzed by HTaMoO6 and HTaMoO6 nanosheet aggregates, respectively. It was verified that HTaMoO6 and HTaMoO6 nanosheet aggregates had pretty good catalytic activity. In addition, the different characterization methods including SEM, XRD, FT-IR, NH3-TPD and ICP-OES were applied for the layered solid acids.
