The need to reduce carbon emissions has motivated the development of a number of reaction-separation processes that may translate to other areas of reactor engineering. It would of interest to determine if the methods of analysis used for this energy processes, such as free energy of reaction and separation could be applied as a a tool for process selection. Other methods include sorption enhanced reaction, where a reaction product is selectively remove to carry out a reversible reaction to completion or the use of reverse flow chromatographic reactor to substitute the very complex simulated moving bed reactors
