Neal Chung and his group have been extraordinarily productive in a number of areas of membrane research. These include a variety of membrane fabrication, membrane distillation, gas separation, mixed matrix membranes, pervaporation, organic solvent nanofiltration etc. I will describe some of our recent and earlier research in these and related areas. First, I will describe our very recent explorations on reverse osmosis separation of organic solvent mixtures using swelling-resistant hydrophobic membranes. I will also touch upon organic solvent nanofiltration. I will next describe our studies with a variety of novel membranes and membrane devices for highly productive performances in direct contact membrane distillation. These include both flat porous membranes and hollow fibers. I will next describe our earlier research on highly selective recovery of volatile biofuels from their aqueous solutions simulating dilute fermentation broths. I will conclude by describing our recent research on recovering various chemicals from their dilute solutions.
