Being interested in modelling solids suspension in a stirred vessel, more in particular the just-suspended impeller speed, our hypothesis is that lifting the last particles from the bottom should be modelled in terms of local time scales (particle response time vs turbulent time scales) rather than in terms of local length scales (particle size vs turbulent length scales). For this reason, we performed single-phase Large Eddy Simulations (by means of the lattice Boltzmann code M-Star) for a turbulent stirred vessel. At a number of positions close to the bottom of the vessel, we calculated spectra and time scales from the simulation results. We present such spectra and time scales, realizing that in this Large Eddy Simulation we miss the small scales.
