Fate, Transport, and Remediation of Contaminants in the Environment

Chair(s)

Creighton, M. A., 3M Corporate Research Materials Laboratory

Co-chair(s)

Guelfo, J., Brown University

This session emphasizes the understanding of transport in environmental media (e.g., air, groundwater, oceans, soil, etc.) and remedial alternatives. Papers are invited on topics including the physical, chemical and biological processes that pollutants undergo upon release; the effects of interacting mixtures and complex systems on contaminant fate and transport; remediation techniques; release prevention; green chemistry efforts to minimize release and/or impact; and related issues, challenges, and solutions. Contamination sources may be from existing industrial processes such as mining, energy production, or manufacturing; or, may focus on implications and concerns of emerging compounds.
