Hydrogen is considered as the cleanest energy and can be obtained from water splitting directly in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) show excellent performance as electrocatalyst for HER. According to the Density functional theory (DFT), ReSe2 as a member of TMDCs is expected to own catalytic properties comparable to Platinum. For typical TMDCs, such as 2H-MoS2, 2H-MoSe2 and 2H-WS2, the active sites for HER are mainly located at the edge sites. However, the active sites distribution of 1T-distorted ReSe2 is still unclear since ReSe2 shows strong in-plane anisotropy compared to other TMDCs. In this paper, graphene foams (GF) with different ReSe2 coverages are obtained via chemical vapor deposition methods. Based on the electrochemical test, the catalytic activities of edge and basal plane of ReSe2 are investigated, which can provide significant information to further improve the HER performance of ReSe2 from the fundamental sight.
